Deep Impact 79 Results and Review

On Sept 16th, we had the opportunity to attend Deep Impact 79 in Ota Gymnasium. As you are aware, Deep puts on several types of events. They have events that are just female fighters and they have events that use both the cage and a regular boxing ring. This event used the Cage.

Deep Impact 79 was not short on fights. There was a total of 19 fights on this card. This event was packed with some great MMA action. You can see the results of all the fights below. Deep has a strong business relationship with RIZIN and we got to see the results of that relationship. During Deep Impact 79, 3 fighters from RIZIN were on the card. The co-main event of the evening featured Tatsumitsu Wada 18-8-2, 1 NC (Win-Loss-Draw) Vs Kosuke “Rambo” Suzuki 12-9-3 (Win-Loss-Draw).

Wada has been on fire in his career. He went into this fight on a 6 win streak. He then extended it to 7 wins at Deep Impact 79.  He has been a dominant force in Deep for a while. He also showed he has the right stuff at last year’s End of the year RIZIN event where he beat Kaiwhare Kara-France by decision after 3 rounds.

His opponent in this match-up was the ever-entertaining, crowd favorite, Kosuke “Rambo” Suzuki. Before Rambo makes entrance he has a guy come out to the middle of the cage, dressed like a Major in the Army. He calls out Rambo and then Rambo comes in with a machine gun and a bandana. When he gets to the cage he belly crawls to his friend who is waiting in the middle of the cage. It is a very entertaining walk out, to say the least.

In the end theatrics did not stop the Wada machine. Wada sealed up this match with a RNC for the win.  In Addition to Wada’s win, the other 2 RIZIN fighters did a fine job as well both King Reina and Kanna Asakura bested their opponents in their matches.

The main event of the evening was a battle for the top position in the Straw Weight Division. The Deep Championship belt was on the line. The fighters did not let us down either. They both came to the cage ready to rip the head off their opponent. The fight seemed evenly matched until in the second round Ochi slipped on a tight Guillotine choke that got him the tap and the belt.
