Former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang has definitely made a name for himself, achieving success in the world of mixed martial arts and gathering fame in the process.
Despite earning a lot of recognition, especially in his hometown, Folayang, who will compete at ONE: DAWN OF HEROES on 2 August, remains humble and grateful for the love and support he receives.
“I honestly feel shy but at the same time humbled,” Folayang said.
“This is somewhat fairly new to me but I take this attention as an additional drive to stay hungry and focused. It makes me want to do more and achieve more that will leave an impact for all eternity.”
Folayang hasn’t gotten used to the fame yet, admitting sometimes he worries about his wife whenever fans ask for photos with him in public. Thankfully, his wife has been very supportive of his career.
“My wife is simply amazing,” Folayang said.
“She does her best to adjust to any circumstance and allows me to shine when fans greet me in the streets. I sometimes feel bad for her during those times but she understands my situation very well and has given me her unending support. I’m truly blessed to be married to such a great woman.”
Despite receiving multiple awards, Folayang said his greatest accomplishment is becoming a role model for the youth, and only hopes he can have a positive impact on their lives.
“It’s a great honor for the youth to see me as their role model,” Folayang concluded.
“I simply want to impart that each of them has a purpose in this world and that they need discipline, hard work, and respect to endure trials to reap the rewards of life just as I had in the cage.”
