Filipino-American ONE Super Series athlete Jackie Buntan is picking her friend and Boxing Works teammate Janet “JT” Todd to win her next bout.
The reigning ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion and #2-ranked atomweight Muay Thai contender, Todd, will go up against #3-ranked contender “Ninjaline” Anne Line Hogstad in the co-main event of “ONE on TNT II,” a previously recorded event from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore which airs this Wed., April 14 (Thu., April 15 in Asia).
While Hogstad is certainly a challenge, the Filipino-American striker knows Todd can handle the imminent threats the Norwegian fighter poses. Buntan, who regularly trains with Todd and is her chief sparring partner, believes Todd has the winning momentum heading into the fight.
“Anne has a good well-rounded style as a fighter. I think Janet and Anne will pump out an exciting fight using all eight weapons of Muay Thai. Plus, I know Janet is excited to be competing in a Muay Thai rule set again,” said Buntan.
“I know it’s going to be a good fight because Anne has a good arsenal of skills, and Janet is coming off a recent win. She has all the momentum to carry on that win streak.”
“Of course, I’ve trained with Janet for a long time and I know her very well. She has some distinct advantages over Anne. I think Janet’s power, timing, and speed will pose a lot of problems for anyone she’s in the Circle with,” Buntan added.
“ONE on TNT II” is the second of a four-part event series broadcast from the Singapore Indoor Stadium. In the main event, reigning ONE Lightweight World Champion Christian “The Warrior” Lee defends his title against #3-ranked lightweight contender Timofey Nastyukhin.
The “ONE on TNT” series airs every Wednesday in the United States from April 7 for four weeks.
Each week will include a lead card digitally streamed exclusively on Bleacher Report, B/R App, B/R MMA Twitter, B/R Live YouTube, and B/R Live, followed by main card fights televised exclusively on Bleacher Report and the B/R app. More information on how to watch can be found at https://www.onefc.com/news/how-to-watch-one-on-tnt-ii/
After a spectacular ONE Super Series debut, dominating Thai favorite Wondergirl Fairtex in a unanimous decision, Buntan is looking to climb back into the Circle at the soonest possible time.
Speaking exclusively to Asian Persuasion MMA, Buntan expressed her interest in getting right back in there and earning some new fans, as well as potentially competing for a title in the near future.
“The sooner the better. Having the momentum going, especially after having a year-and-a-half hiatus. The more fights, the better. I’d like to stay active. Hopefully, in the near future. Whenever they wanna give it (the title shot) to me,” said Buntan.
“It’s just all been love and tremendous support from friends back home, family back at home. The cool part is people I don’t even know. But they’ve all been super supportive of me. I have a bunch of new fans from all over. Can’t ask for anything else. I think I proved to people that I belong on that stage.”
